My History with Anaïs Nin Goes to Hell

A little over eight years ago I was asked to play the role of Queen Victoria in a new play called “Anaïs Nin Goes to Hell” that was to be part of the New York International Fringe Festival.    Having done a staged reading of the play in the MTWorks New Born Festival earlier in the year, I of course said “yes”.     I am so glad I did because it ended up being a thrilling and exhilarating experience.   To date it is one of my favorite roles to have performed.

Here are a couple of reviews that I got from the original production:

Madalyn McKay is hysterical as Queen Victoria” – Roger Nasser

McKay is appropriately imperious as Queen Victoria” – Duncan Pflaster – Broadway World .com

Of course it wasn’t just me that got great reviews:

Thank the gods for Stallings’ Anaïs Nin Goes to Hell” – Village Voice

“For a play about woman but written by a man, it tapped into the greater female psyche…” – New York Press

One of Fringe’s 2008 must-sees.” – Off Off Off

“It’s nice to see a play that relies on strong women.” –

“MTWorks has produced another winning play.” -Stage Buzz

And of course there was this that greeted us at several performances:

Now I get to do it AGAIN!!!!!!!!!
